Arabic coffee is an important part of Bahrain’s traditional culture and social fabric, regularly served at traditional coffee shops where many locals gather to exchange stories, meet friends and experience the energy of the Souq on a daily basis. For that reason the theme for this year’s 21st Annual Heritage Festival, taking place at Manama Souq from April 24th to May 1st, will highlight Arabic coffee shops and traditional cafes.

Manama’s Souq has so much heritage and culture to offer, with a myriad of streets and restaurants it offers visitors the opportunity to explore and discover for themselves their own hidden gems. The Heritage Festival serves to put a spotlight on those places in the Souq that must not be missed.

Festival is set to take place on April 24th 2013 at Bab al Bahrain. The theme for this year’s festival is Traditional Cafes, emphasizing on the hidden gems that have been in the souq for years. There will be an interactive map highlighting these cafes or "gems" as well as other important places to visit in the souq.  there will also be a user friendly smartphone application that will serve as an informative and interactive map to the public. The festival will showcase the history of coffee in Bahrain and how it integrated itself into the everyday lives of people. From old homes, to traditional coffee houses and majlises, to the unique architecture and narrow streets that took form and evolved from ancient civilizations to present day, the festival will enable visitors to experience the deep-rooted heritage of Bahrain through the prism of coffee.
