State-of-art National Amphitheatre will be inaugurated in November as part of festivities marking Manama Capital of Arab Culture2012.

Culture Minister Shaikha Mai bint Mohammed Al-Khalifa today announced the forthcoming official opening of the milestone as she received Italian La Republica journalist Michele Laman. The Ministry of Works and Housing of the Kingdom of Bahrain has commissioned a National Theatre of Bahrain, which will include a main 750-seat auditorium designed for drama, small symphony concerts, conferences, jazz and other amplified music events. The complex will also house a 150-seat flexible studio theatre. The main auditorium will be intimate and has been specifically designed to enhance the actor-audience relationship, a key contributor to the experience of live theatre. The bold design of the auditorium, and its single seating rake, is designed to provide excellent sightlines and to embrace the stage, bringing the audience closer to the performances. Meanwhile, the flexibility of the forestage and proscenium will allow for several different staging options

She paid tribute to His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al-Khalifa for supporting culture and the protection of heritage and national identity. She said that the iconic cultural monument would play a crucial role in promoting theatre and hosting world-renowned plays. The project will be a major cultural landmark in the Kingdom of Bahrain, as Manama is celebrating the Capital of Culture in 2012 and all the accompanying events and activities.


The meeting provided a wonderful opportunity to discuss the bilateral cultural relations between Bahrain and Italy, the need to  promote heritage, tourism and cultural aspects of the Kingdom of Bahrain within its GCC environment.
