03 October 2012 “Queen of Qanun” Hasmik Leyloyan in Second Performance of 21st Bahrain International Music Festival Audiences treated to an evening of classical and folk Armenian Qanun compositions
Reigning “Queen of Qanun” Hasmik Leyloyan treated her audience to a special performance on the second night of the 21st Bahrain International Music Festival (Oct 1st) at the Cultural Hall. With her unique style that effortlessly blends Armenian folk music and classical compositions, Leyloyan’s show, entitled “Qanun Night”, presented a colorful window into the history of this complex instrument.
The week-long festival is part of the “music month” – the 9th month of the year-long “Manama: Capital of Arab Culture 2012” program. Performances by acclaimed artists ZADE (Jordan), Mohammed Al-Amin (Sudan), Amina Srarfi and El Azifet (Tunisia), Orquesta de Camara Reina Sofia (Spain) are next on the slate. The daily concerts start at 8 p.m,. with the sixth and final concert scheduled for Friday, October 5th.
