16 September 2012 Ministry of Culture's Strategy for renovating National Museum Exhibitions

In effort to renovate and enhance exhibitions strategy at Bahrain National Museum, H.E Shaikha Mai Bint Mohammed Al-Khalifa, the Minister of Culture received a French team specialized in museum exhibitions. During the meeting, both sides discussed means of further developing museum exhibitions at Bahrain National Museum and updating a number of the museum halls with the cutting-edge technology. Developing facility will provide youth, adults and families the opportunity to explore new ideas through tangible, galvanic exhibits, where they'll learn about everything from dinosaurs to DNA. The concept of the architectural design of the National Museum is based on human and cultural heritage to serve the community and underlines the harmonious integration of past and present, history and modernism, art and nature. This also comes within the framework of Bahrain being the Capital of Arab Culture 2012 and its preparation to become the Capital of Arab Tourism 2013.

In fact, development works are expected to last for approximately one and half years and the first of its phases would be opened in 2013, during celebrations of Manama as the Capital of Arab Tourism.  It is worth mentioning that before 24 years ago, the late H.H. Shaikh Isa bin Salman Al Khalifa, the Amir of the Kingdom of Bahrain, presided at the official inauguration ceremony of the Bahrain National Museum, 6th Jumada Al Uola 1409/ 15th December 1988. Also present were the Prime Minister, H.H. Shaikh Khalifa bin Salman Al-Khalifa, and the Crown Prince, H.H. Shaikh Hamad bin Isa Al-Khalifa. H.E. Tariq Abdulrahman Al-Moayyed, the Minister of Information, guided H.H. the Amir through the different halls of the Museum. This museum has been built in a bay between Manama and Muharraq where one may have expected modern hotel complexes or a seaside resort. The setting is beautiful and flowered gardens surround a part of the museum.

Present at this meeting also were, Dr. Nadine Basqmati, Museums Counselor and Mr. Pierre Lombard, Museum Exhibitions' Counselor.
