Bahrain aims to promote Tourism and Culture
Through Visit Exchange with France’s Nice Riviera

H.E Shaikh Khalid bin Hmood Al Khalifa,  Acting Assistant Undersecretary for Tourism, recently visited the French Riviera capital, Nice, in the presence French Embassy’s Advisor for Culture and Cooperation Mr. Cedric Devais. During this visit,  Mr. Devais accompanied his guest,  H.E Shaikh Khalid Bin  Hamood Al-Khalifa in a tour organized by the Municipality of Nice  throughout  the main cultural and tourist attractions of the city.  The aim of this visit is find h ways of revitalizing the national economy through boosting the tourism sector and exchange of visits with other leaders nations in this regard.

Mme Agnès RAMPAL, a Vice-Mayor at the Nice’s City Hall, welcomed her guests, expressing her immense pleasure to cooperate  constructively with Kingdom of Bahrain, noting that Bahrain is the first Arab country to develop cooperation and  mutual relationships with the City of Nice with regard to tourism, culture and the development of coastal beaches.  

H.E Shaikh Khalid Bin  Hmood  Al-Khalifa,  expressed his deep gratitude and thanks to the Nice Municipality’s officials for their interest in cooperating with the Kingdom of Bahrain, which is celebrating its Capital of Arab Tourism events. H.E also reiterated Bahrain’s constant search for new challenges, exposure to new experiences and expertise in order to promote multi-cultural Bahraini society, open to the world and other cultures. The visit would also enhance coordination between all parties concerned in order to devise an action plan to hold diverse functions and projects the year round so as to boost  the kingdom’s economy through tourism.

H.E  Shaikh Khalid Bin  Hmood  Al-Khalifa, had then a meeting with  Denis ZANON, Director of Nice Tourism, who expressed his hope to see more expertise exchange  between the Ministry of Culture and city of Nice, with regard to statistics, hotels’ ranking and management of cultural festivals. Mr. ZANON gave a detailed presentation on tourism development in Nice during the next five years, the main reasons behind Nice’s Airport being the 2nd in France’s air traffic and the future plans to develop it.

Bahrain’s Tourism Sector’s, Acting Assistant Undersecretary for Tourism had also a meeting with Olivier SASSI, Director of Development and Innovation at Nice’s Municipality, who gave him a clear idea on the city’s urban development plan for the 2020. Drying the meeting,  the Ministry of Culture has been honored thus to inaugurate the city hall’s  “ Conventions Centre”.  H.E also met with Mr. Julien Kerone, the Mayor Cabinet Director, and Mrs. Farah CHERIF, Directorate of International Relations and European Affairs, Municipality of Nice to discuss means of promoting cooperation between the  French city and the Kingdom of Bahrain.

 Concerning the urban development of cities’ coasts, H.E Shaikh Khalid Bin  Hmood  Al-Khalifa, held a meeting with  Mr. Fabrice Bernard, Director International Section of the Conservatoire du Littoral ( Nice), who  briefed him about the prospects of preserving historical coastal cities. Indeed, he argued  the biggest threat by far in the Mediterranean is habitat destruction by urbanization and infrastructure development. It is this that majorly impacts key coastal areas and even more so wetlands and causes habitat fragmentation. The Conservatoire du Littoral agreed to provide all the expertise needed to study Bahrain’s coastal phenomenon and propose t creative ideas to promote Bahrain’s coasts as a major tourist attraction.
