Bahrain Participates in GCC Archaeology Undersecretaries Meeting

A meeting to discuss the concerted efforts need to be exerted to safeguard and protect GCC antiquities and museums was inaugurated by the Minister of Information, H.E Sheikh Salman Sabah Al-Salem Al-Sabah on Monday 21st April . A Bahraini delegation, led by the Assistant Undersecretary for Tourism Affairs at the Culture Ministry Shaikh Khalid bin Humood Al Khalifa, took part in the 15th convention of the GCC artifacts and history society, on April 21-22, in Kuwait.

The opening ceremony honoured GCC researchers in the field of archaeology and owners of private museums, including Beit Al Qur’an founder Dr Abdullatif Jassim Kanoo and two Bahraini archeology and artifacts experts.

The meeting is primarily intended to boost public awareness of monuments which mark a
knowledge fortune that should be protected and maintained. GCC Monumental history and diverse types of tradition reflect the national identity and cultural dimension of people. The participants discussed the implementation of the previous meeting's decisions and recommendations, which focused on joint programmes and events that promote GCC joint work in terms of joint programmes, seminars, scientific forums and joint training programmes.

The meeting would come up with resolutions and recommendations that could contribute to bolstering and consolidating inter-Gulf cooperation in the field of monuments and museums. They also agreed on a common partnership and cooperation with regard to UNESCO World Heritage List sites to be nominated and to continue holding periodical common archaeology exhibition.

The participants thanked the Kingdom of Bahrain for hosting and organising the training workshop ‘First Aid for Archaeological finds in the GCC’ in April 2014.
