The Minister of Culture Participates at 8th Conference  the Islamic Conference of Culture Ministers at Madina Al-Munawara

H.E Shaikha Mai bint Mohammed Al Khalifa, Minister of Culture, participated in the 8th Islamic Conference of Culture Ministers, which started  on Tuesday 21 January 2014 under the Patronage of Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, in the presence of Prince Faisal bin Salman bin Abdulaziz, Governor of Al-Madinah Al-Munawarah and Chairman of the Supreme Committee, for festivities marking the selection of Madinah as the Capital of Islamic Culture for the year 2013.   The Minister of Culture has taken part in this 8th Session of the OIC under the theme  “Enhancing Cultural Rights in the Islamic World to Foster Dialogue and Peace. The conference started on 21st and will continue until 23 January 2014.

Dr. Abdulaziz bin Mohieddin Khoja, Minister of Information and Culture of Saudi Arabia inaugurated the conference and  thanked the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al Saud for patronizing and following-up preparations for this great Islamic cultural event, Crown Prince Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Deputy Premier and Minister of Defense, for his support and Prince Faisal bin Salman bin Abdulaziz, Governor of Al-Madinah Al-Munawarah, who made the success of this occasion top of his priorities. In this regard, Dr. Khoja announced two proposals embodying a vision to produce a joint cultural work and reflect the spiritual aspect of Muslim's second holiest city and its historic role in the service of Islamic culture and paying care to talented Muslims: First, establishment of Al-Madinah Al-Munawarah electronic website for Islamic culture, giving chance to every single Islamic country to display its cultural landmarks and introduce its output in arts, literature and science and, Second: bibliography of innovators in the Islamic world in the fields of arts and literature.

Taibah University three-days conference also discussed topics related to the general theme;  “For the promotion of cultural rights in the Muslim world in the service of dialogue and peace”, which  comes at the conclusion of events marking the selection of Madinah as the Capital of Islamic Culture for the year 2013. The conference will name the capital of Islamic culture for the year 2014.Khoja said that the conference would discuss, among other topics, the initiative of King Abdullah for dialogue between followers of different faiths and cultures; achievements and future prospects and the results achieved after its adoption in the 7th conference.

The Madinah's public library building, the "Letters and Illuminations" exhibition at the Sports Club of the Meridian Hotel and a book Fair were opened on the sidelines of the conference. Events marking the selection of Madinah as the Capital of Islamic Culture for the year 2013 and for the success of events and activities throughout the year, were also highlighted.
