Deputy Premier Opens 16th Bahrain International Book Fair

The 16th International Book Fair 2014 is organized by the Ministry of Culture at the Bahrain International Exhibition & Convention Centre with the idea of inculcating the reading habit and learning and sharing knowledge in the Bahraini Society. The book fair will have latest publications ranging from foreign titles, children’s books to the prominent ones in the Arab publishing industry. The book fair is held from 27th March 2014 to 6th April 2014.


Indeed, His Royal Highness, Prime Minister, Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa, has deputized Deputy Premier, H.E Shaikh Ali bin Khalifa Al Khalifa to open the 16th Bahrain International Book Fair, organised, under his patronage, of the Ministry of Culture at the Bahrain International Exhibition and Convention Centre. H.E Shaikh Ali bin Khalifa Al Khalifa conveyed his greetings from HRH Premier to the Fair's officials and participants, and wishes that the Fair will be successful and contribute to enhancing the cultural movement in the Kingdom. H.E asserted that HRH Premier allocates special interest in culture for its role in developing peoples' minds and souls, and for being among the most important means to consolidate the kingdom's reputation as a country with a long history of civilisation and openness in all cultural and artistic fields.


This year, Egypt will be the guest of honour at the event, where a large pavilion will be allocated to it to display and promote Egyptian culture and its different stages throughout the centuries. A high profile Egyptian cultural delegation will be present at the event. On the day of inauguration, Egyptian band Sharara Sextet will entertain the audience with a concert of oriental music at 7pm.The ten-member band was established in the early 1980s by Egyptian modern music maven Atiya Sharara, playing his chosen music compositions in his 66 years in the music industry. The cultural activities will be held daily on the sidelines of the fair including lectures, musical shows and the launching of books written by local authors.


The Deputy Premier, accompanied by the Minister of Culture Shaikha, H.E Mai bint Mohammed Al Khalifa, toured the fair, and was informed about exhibited books and publications. H.E expressed admiration for the continuous success of the Bahrain International Book Fair, noting that the growing participation of Arab and international publishing houses proves the kingdom's ability to host and organise key specialised international exhibitions. H.E Shaikh Ali bin Khalifa Al Khalifa pointed out that the importance of the fair had grown and the number of its exhibitors and visitors had increased because it attracted books that met all tastes, and motivated youths to read.

H.E Shaikh Ali bin Khalifa Al Khalifa stressed the importance of supporting cultural events for their essential role in enlightening minds and creating new generations that have modern visions, which, he said, would boost the nation-building process and ensure it a brighter future. The Deputy Premier thanked H.E Shaikha Mai Bint Mohmmad al-Khalifa, and all the Culture Ministry's affiliates for their efforts in organising the 16th Bahrain International Book Fair in a way that projects the kingdom's genuine bright image. H.E said that the constant success of the Book Fair would boost the cultural movement in the kingdom.

 

The Minister of culture, for her part, extended sincere thanks and appreciation to HRH Premier for patronising the Book Fair, and the Deputy Premier for opening it on his behalf. Indeed, the purpose of the exhibition is to showcase latest publications in all fields of knowledge, to install a culture of reading and learning in the Bahraini society. It comprises many sections and encompasses the broad spectrum of the publishing industry in the Arab World, foreign titles, children's books, teaching and e-learning resources.
About 350 local, Arab and international publishing houses and cultural institutions are taking part in the eleven-day fair, organised by the Culture Ministry as part of "Year of Art 2014".

it is worth mentioning that this year Egypt is the guest of honour at the event with a large pavilion to display and promote Egyptian culture and its different stages throughout history. A host of cultural events and programmes will be provided in the children's pavilion, devoted to children and their families in order to promote the reading culture and lay the basis for a generation of readers. Ta’a Al Shabab, an annual festival organised by the Culture Ministry, will participate in the Bahrain International Book Fair for the third time with focus on a wide range of cultural aspects, including literature, fine arts, poetry, theatre, music, architecture, technology, human science, among others.


Ta’a Al Shabab's pavilion will inform visitors about its goals, events and achievements and attract more youths to join it.
