Bahram Hajou’ Exhibition at the Art Center, In Cooperation with the German Embassy

Bahrain Authority for Culture & Antiquities, in cooperation with the embassy of Federal Republic of Germany, inaugurates on 19 January 2017, unique art titled “Gagged ..No Dialogue” by artist Bahram Hajou.

The exhibition, which will run until 19 February, offers the public a chance to discover a different visual expressionist art school, presenting unconventional way of painting characters. Indeed, Bahram Hajou is considered a leader in postmodern Arab visual art. His works utilize the reflection of the self to explore a communal pain. His figures become a reflection of himself and his relationship with life. Hajou presents to the viewer himself as a visual offering that is reacting at the altar of his people’s pain. Along with the artist’s relationship with the female that turns her back to him, as if in eternal reproach to this being. These psychological and aesthetic values are the essential bearers of what Bahram is trying to convey, that elevate and deepen his simplistic visual style.

Born in 1952, Syrian-born German artist Bahram Hajou studied in the Fine Arts Academy, Dusseldorf and later graduated from the Art Academy Münster in Germany in 1984. Hajou‘s theme is the human in his loneliness translated into the language of symbols and in a continuity of motifs: face, body postures, blank room, inaccessible towers, dilapidated homes and landscape. Against a background characterized by subtle hues punctuated by sudden splashes of colour, the human figure stares out or turns away, the body language expressing a range of emotions, love, fear, solitude, anxiety, understanding, freedom and dependence.

Hajou participated in various exhibitions in Germany, Mexico, France, Syria and the UAE, and was honoured with an exhibition at the Salon d’Automne, one of the most prestigious galleries in Paris.

Worth to mention that the cultural scene is thriving during this period in Bahrain where The 43rd Annual Fine Arts Exhibition was inaugurated this morning, on 17 January 2017 at the National Theater by the Prime Minister, HRH Prince Khalifa Bin Salman Al Khalifa.
