56 Volunteers from Bahrain and All over the World at the 42nd World Heritage Committee meeting

The 42nd World Heritage Committee meeting, which closed on Wednesday, 4 July 2018, at UNESCO Village at the vicinity of the Ritz Carlton Hotel, Manama, has managed to create a unique cultural and civilizational event by setting a volunteer program plan. Indeed, Bahrain Authority for Culture & Antiquities has succeeded to gather a 56 Bahraini and international volunteers to take part and facilitate the preparations and work of WHC sessions and deliberations.

The meeting was attended by more than 2000 experts in cultural and natural heritage, representatives of the World Heritage Committee made up of 21 member state countries and over 150 journalists from all over the world.

Volunteers showed a perfect and ideal example of volunteer spirit adventure to promote the Kingdom of Bahrain internationally, given that they provided crucial help in coordinate programme activities, greet visiting delegates, assist with registration, act as guides during the conference, staff various offices and activities, and perform other crucial tasks. 20 Volunteers, joined by others from Brandenburg University of Technology Cottbus, Germany, the German University of Technology in Oman, where students from Taiwan, India, Lebanon and Germany are registered. For communication and translation services, volunteers offered their free linguistic skills in 16 languages, such as French, English, German, Spanish, Arabic, Hindi, Korean, Chinese and others.

Their tasks began the moment the WHC delegations landed in Bahrain International Airport until registration at UNESCO Village on daily basis from 10:00 am- 6:00pm. Bahrain Authority for Culture & Antiquities had provided them with substantial information and booklets on detailed tourist information about Bahrain, details and enquiries regarding the WHC meeting participants and delegates’ accommodation, accessible routes to the meeting venue, side-lines field visits to discover rich Bahrain historical heritage.
