H.E Shaikha Mai Receives Bahrain Club Board of Directors, H.E: We seek to restore the visual identity of the historical building

Concerned with preserving the historical and urban heritage of youth clubs and their buildings, H.E Shaikha Mai bint Mohammed Al Khalifa, President of Bahrain Authority for Culture & Antiquities (BACA), has received, on 6 September 2018, Bahrain Club directors headed by the board chairman Nabil Al Saie. The two sides discussed the club revamp project’s progress as part of Muharraq the Capital of Islamic Culture 2018 and in support of productive youth activities.

During the meeting, H.E highlighted the importance of Bahrain Club urban historical heritage, which was the citadel of most memorable national sports events in 1920s, arguing that there is a need to preserve its visual identity, the architectural heritage of historical and cultural value of such institutions. At the same time it is very important to develop environment dynamically to sustain life activities in general, given that revitalization is presented as a method of how to convert life sustaining environment in the context of preservation and promotion concerning cultural value of historical buildings method with the purpose to preserve and restore these historical landmarks. H.E added that this project is coordinated with the Ministry of Youth & Sports, with the objective of continuing the sportive and cultural activities in this club and achieve great deeds, especially the club is an icon and a national symbolic building clearly identified by visitors of Bahrain via Bahrain National Airport.

The club’s board members delegation expressed their appreciation of BACA’s attention and keenness on revitalization of historic and heritage assets in the region through investment in cultural infrastructures, asserting that such visions will contribute profoundly in the of youth, sports, culture fields. The delegation went on to visit the Bu Maher Fort Centre to familiarize with the Pearl Road project which has been listed as Global Humanitarian Heritage site. They also toured Bahrain National Museum and admired futuristic projects which BACA aspires to unleash as part of Muharraq the Capital of Islamic Culture 2018.
