Al-Khalifya Library will host, on Wednesday, 13 March, at 7:00 pm a lecture on “  Belated Travelers and the Passion for Travel in the Age of Colonial Dissolution” by Dr. Dheya Abdullah Al Kaabi, who is  an assistant professor of Literary Criticism and Narratology, Arabic and Islamic studies at the University of Bahrain. Free admission

This lecture provokes the question of western travelers to the Arab region especially during the era of colonial dissolution, late 19th  century and beginning of the 20th  century,   and the question of “neo-orientalism”, in contrast to “old orientalism”.

The lecture will shed lights on a subject broached by the academic and researcher Ali Behdad – an expert in Cultural Studies - in his important book “Belated Travelers: Orientalism in the Age of Colonial Dissolution”. Dr. Al Kaabi will review and highlight the main themes of Behdad’s approach and critics to the its logical sources offspring. Dr. Al Kaabi will discuss the works and intellectual ideologies of the Dutch diplomat and Orientalist Paul Marcel Kurpershoek, as manifested by his latest publication “ The Last Bedouin- Al-Badawi al-Akhir”.
 
Worth to mention that Dr. Dheya Abdullah Al Kaabi Assistant Professor of Literary Criticism and Narrative, University of Bahrain with more than 13 years of experience in academic teaching. She was awarded a PhD, in  (Modern Literary Criticism and Narratives) from the  University of Jordan and a  Bachelor of Arts in (Modern Literary Criticism and Narratives) from the same university  also. Dr, Al Kaabi is Dr. al Kaabi is a member of “Thaqafat” and “Semat” magazines, member of Bahrain’s Writers Association, member of The International Council for Arabic Language, Egyptian Association for Literary Criticism, UK universities’ member and a member of the Sheikh Zayed Book Award Scientific Committee.

Dr. Al Kaabi has received first prize in the field of criticism and feminine critical studies in theatre and arts. Some of her books on the subject include “ The Discourse of Feigning Madness in the Old Arabic Narrative Works, Polemic Discourse in Arabic Culture and Arabic Oral Narratives”. Her latest book, which was launched recently, is entitled,  Encyclopedia of Bahraini Folktales: Thousands and Thousands of Tales, in collaboration with the Folk Culture Archive for Studies”.
