More than 250 Participants, Took part in BACA’s Pearling Path Walkathon

 

Bahrain Authority for Culture & Antiquities organized, on 16 March 2019, sports activity “Walkathon”, along the  Pearling Path: UNESCO World Heritage List site, Pearling: Testimony of an Island Economy. More than 250 participants took part in this activity scheduled by14th edition of Spring of Culture Festival, in cooperation with the Bahrain Road Runners (BRR) voluntary participants.    

This initiative aims to spread awareness about the importance of this most-valuable open-air heritage  museum and trigger the consciousness of  Bahraini society members about their historical legacy. The walk journey started  back and forth starting from Al-Ghous House in the South, to the Jamsheer House in the north of Muharraq, along the 12 houses located on the Pearling Path. Visited historical houses included Al-Jalahma House,  Fakhro, House, Marad House and Majlis, al Qaysariya Market and other locations, with accompanying guides shedding lights on these historical houses, their role in the prestigious pearl industry flourish in Bahrain, and especially in the city of Muharraq.

Walkathon’s participants most prominent stops along the Pearling Path, also included Pearling Path Visitor Center, designed to encompass two iconic historical buildings ( Amarat), Yousif Bin Abdulrahman Fakhro Amarat ( buildings). The participants got acquainted with other fascinating details and  information about this pathway, such as the  17 public spaces, which are dedicated to residents and visitors alike to enjoy universal and historical heritage of the city of Muharraq.

Bahrain’s Pearling: Testimony of an Island Economy is the second UNESCO World Heritage List site inscribed in 2012.
