Hiya Biya

Al Jasra Handicrafts Center is organizing a workshop the Heya Beyah celebration for children. Heya Beya is an old Bahraini traditional annual ritual, aimed at reviving the heritage.  It falls on the 9th day of 'Dhu al-Hijjah', days before Eid al-Adha, when children and their families gather to spend an enjoyable social day on the seacoast, chanting the “Heya Beyah” song.  

 Objectives of the workshop:

  • Enhancing the importance of popular heritage and folklore.
  • Developing cognitive behavior towards the environment.
  • Teaching the child organic farming skills.
  • Anchoring communication and participation skills among children.

Workshop Topics Include:

  • “Heya Beya” popular heritage story- telling to keep on the legacy.
  • Identify the environmentally friendly forms “ heya Beyah” plants
  • Each child will try to practice “Heya Beyah” planting in real circumstances.
  • Learn about baskets-making craft in a tour of the center in an atmosphere of fun and performance of traditional songs.
