Bahrain Musical Band Concert Celebrating ‘Tarab’: Genuine Traditions

Performing music that stretches back thousands of years the Bahrain Music Band performed a gorgeous concert on 13th of June 2015 at the Cultural Hall as part of its endeavor to honor traditional Arab music. Bahraini music, not being subject to the constraints of the history of images and the optical transformations of culture, moves in a space far more fluid and free. Liberated from the ideology of history and circulating unambiguously between the local and the global, the indigenous and the avant-garde, the minimal and the elaborate, Arab music moves to inspire in us tradition and culture.

The concert is considered one of the monthly music performances initiated by Culture & Antiquities Authority celebrating Arab music heritage under the theme ‘Our Heritage… Our Wealth’. The Bahrain Music Band performed a number of different songs within the Arab collective music memory, which best reflect the creativity of the Bahraini music troupe and its capacity to recall history and revive memories of time and place.

Talented vocalists and musicians of classical music from Bahrain Musical Band paid tribute to many legendary Arab singers, song writers, and composers with their own renditions of songs. The audience will enjoy this enchanting musical journey of ‘Tarab’ with the internationally acclaimed orchestra.

The cultural hall audience enjoyed last night’s selection of beautiful genuine Arab sweet songs, such as El Hilwa Di, Gana al-Hawa, Ghannili Shwaya Shwaya, Tala3et ya Mahla Nourha, Hella Hella, Tarhel Ya Aghla Ennass, and Ya Abu Al Fa3el in addition to pieces performed by the band mixing old popular songs with modern new interpretations.

The Bahrain Music Band was established in 1996 and has represented the kingdom of Bahrain in official celebrations, whether nationally or internationally, since then. The last participation was during the Aseela Cultural Festival in Morocco when Bahrain was welcomed as guest of honor in the new edition of the festival in 2014. The band constantly offers new opportunities for Bahrain’s talented musicians and composers.
