Introductory Discussion of UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage Convention At Bahrain National Museum

Bahrain Authority for Culture & Antiquities has planned a series of events and activities dealing with different topics, themes and subjects in relation with universal heritage of humanity, tangible and intangible. Thus, Bahrain National Museum Lecture Hall will host an introductory discussion meeting presenting UNESCO Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage, its different mechanisms, implementation and areas of coverage.

H.E Shaikh Khalifa Bin Ahmad Al-Khalifa, Director of Museums’ Directorate at BACA will present Bahrain Authority for Culture & Antiquities’ work plan for the application of this convention. Indeed, the growing importance attributed by different stakeholders to the 2003 Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage is evident, and its visibility and appeal have grown at an incredible pace in recent years. The open-discussion meeting will highlight the prominent cultural intangible elements that BACA seeks to register as intangible heritage elements that have exceptional universal value in the Arab world, preservation and protection plans efforts and raising awareness about the importance of Arab cultural identity. Two files will be discussed namely “Al-Nakhla & the Related Customs and Traditions as Arab Common Heritage” and “ Fijri Music Art”.

Worth to mention that Bahrain has ratified UNESCO Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage as per Decree No 7 of 2017.
