Open Call for Artist in Bahrain to participate in the 44th Bahrain Annual Fine Arts Exhibition


Bahrain Authority for Culture & Antiquities is setting the stage for the 44th edition of Fine Arts Exhibition to be held in the beginning of 2018, announcing an open call for local and Artist in Residence to register and take part in this annual event. Registration is open from 15-spember until 15 December 2017. The world -renowned annual arts exhibition is held annually under the patronage sand support of His Royal Highness Prime Minister Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al- Khalifa, May God Protect Him, since 1972.

Commenting on BACA’s preparations underway to host this event, H.E Shaikha Hala Bint Mohammad Al-Khalifa, Director of Culture & Arts Directorate, said “We will continue to revitalize the cultural scene and to support arts and culture in general, providing effective solutions for professional and vibrant arts and culture scene, as well as for promoting and protecting the country's cultural heritage. We will always maintain a special focus on Fine Arts movement, encouraged and supported by His Royal Highness Prime Minister Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al- Khalifa, May God Protect Him, who believes in the importance and role of arts in the development of society”. H.E Shaikha Hala added saying: “This exhibition covers 40 years of Bahrain’s evolution as a lighthouse for artistic creativity, stylistic change and a crossroad and melting pot of the world’s cultures and civilisations. We are accepting applications continuously from local and artist in residence regardless of their nationalities”.

The Bahrain Annual Fine Arts Exhibition, in its 44th Edition is open to all artists living in the Kingdom both national and international, living as artist in residence, regardless of tendencies, their styles and schools of thought. Bahrain Annual Fine Arts Exhibition continues its conquest of the traditional visual boundaries and transcend limits by mixing colours with thoughts, brushes with love of the open-ended spaces. BACA invites artists to submit their different their artworks that could include any of the following: Sculpture, Oil-Painting, Graphics, Photography and all types of Painting styles.

As to the terms and conditions for entry, BACA would like to inform the public that the participating artists must be aged 18 years or over as of January 2018, and that all entries must be original and no more than 12 months old from the opening of the exhibition. The competition is limited to Three entries per artist, and only One for installations and video. The Maximum recommended size for works is 2m x 2.2m including frame. A selection committee will decide on the work to be exhibited and all entries will be judged on merit and assessed against the selection criteria for the Prize. The judges’ decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into.

Artists may submit applications for participation only by filling in the online form on Bahrain’s Authority of Culture and Antiquities’ website www.culture.gov.bh. It is now a requirement that each artist should upload an image of his artwork/s when registering for the competition online.

Worth to mention that since its inception in 1972, Bahrain, through Annual Fine Arts Exhibition, has always attracted young talented and creative artists given its splendid art treasures. During the Annual Fine Arts Exhibition, the art community gathers to present their finest work, uninhibited by a subject or theme, showcasing a colorful display of styles, techniques, through different mediums of expression. Thus, the exhibition has become is a dialectical image not because it immobilizes time but because it captures the unity of past and future in a mobile present.
