H.E Shaikh Mai accompanied Mr. Abdulmalik in guided tour to the Exhibition “Pearling, Testimony of an Island Economy” site on the UNESCO World Heritage List, briefing him about the details of the project and the efforts deployed by BACA to inaugurate it in 2018, a year when Muharraq will be celebrated as the “Capital of Islamic Culture”.

H.E lauded Arcapita’s support for culture, noting that the Bank’s sponsor and support efforts as part of the "Invest in Culture" initiative, launched more than ten years ago, have led to the development and establishment of many cultural infrastructure projects, including the Qala’at al Bahrain (Bahrain Fort) site and museum, the first site to be registered by the kingdom in the UNESCO heritage list. H.E said “ Arcapita bank believed in us and our dream and helped us make it true. Qala’at al Bahrain Site Museum, first project in “Invest in Culture” project, is an example of a constructive fruitful relation between the private and public sector, leading to the development of a strong cultural infrastructure making Bahrain a regional and world cultural hub”.

During the tour, Arcapita CEO enjoyed the exhibition that showcases the built vision for the site through architectural models, images, studies and mock-ups of the different components of the project. From the conservation aspects to the new architectural interventions, the exhibition will give an in-depth overview of this unique project that aims to spearhead the rehabilitation of the Old City of Muharraq and its completion on 2018, when Muharraq will be celebrated as the Capital of Islamic Culture.
