H.E Attends the Opening Ceremony of “21,39 Jeddah Arts”

H.E Shaikha Mai bint Mohammad Al Khalifa, President of Bahrain Authority for Culture & Antiquities, participated, on 7 February 2018, in the opening ceremony of the fifth edition of Jeddah Art 21,39 initiative being organized by Saudi Art Council in Saudi Arabia. BACA’s president attendance is part of a general strategy aimed at promoting Bahrain’s presence in every local or international major cultural events.

Speaking for the occasion, H.E said “ The cultural movement and infrastructure reflect the Gulf communities’ cultural and civilizational richness, adding through the universal language of art the world communities communicate with each other and establish relations and networks. H.E added saying “I strongly believe that art is the universal language. Art has a way of speaking to us in a way that doesn't use words arts. There is no doubt that gorgeous and beautiful artistic works are finding their way nowadays in Saudi Arabia, reflecting the refined aspirations of many talented artists who succeeded to reach the viewer using a magnificent language of art”

H.E affirmed that cultural initiatives, such as Jeddah art, contribute to promoting the national cultural and civilizational production, arguing that the meaning of the cultural sector becomes more evident by focusing on the regional level. Infrastructure facilities and cultural events are part of the cultural sector and are located in nearly every area”

21,39 Jeddah Arts, an initiative that aims to promote art and culture in Jeddah, is back for its fifth edition under the theme 'Refusing To Be Still' and will show across multiple venues in Jeddah from 7 February to 5 May.

The fifth Jeddah Art exhibition, themed (Refusing to be still) is featuring works by more than 30 Saudi and international artists. A number of workshops and activities target engaging the public in art practices will also be held in various places in Jeddah. A special education program will run in conjunction with ‘21, 39’ offering guided tours of the exhibition, a volunteer programme and mentoring sessions for young Saudi artists, alongside workshops for children and adults.

Worth to mention that 21,39’ Jeddah Arts is a non-profit initiative launched by the Saudi Art Council in February 2014. It is an annual programme with series of arts events and activities, which presents an exclusive insight into the talent and cultural landscape of the country. The second edition starting in January 2015 will showcase a curated programme of culture, talks, and exhibitions which we aim to share with the global audience, creating an accessible experience for cultural influencers, enthusiasts, media, and the art world - highlighting the realities and talent of art throughout The Kingdom. Inspired by the geographic coordinates of the city (21.5433°N, 39.1728°E), ‘21,39’ Jeddah Arts showcases a narrative of art in the country, emphasizing the history of The Kingdom’s modern and contemporary movements, and those who play integral roles in enriching Saudi art on the map.
