The Arab Regional Centre for World Heritage Sheds Lights on the City Damascus & Hosts a Lecture Urban Arab Architecture

The Arab Regional Centre for World Heritage will be launching, two events on 12 February 2019 at 11:00 am; an exhibition on Heritage of urban and architectural modernities in the Arab world, followed by a lecture entitled "Imran Damascus: Modernity, Authenticity and Modernity" by Dr. Anas Soufan, an architect and world heritage expert who will discuss the state of urban changes and history of Damascus, as well as the monitoring and transformations of the historic city’s society and urbanization.

The exhibition presents an overview of the heritage of modern architecture in the Arab region belonging to the twentieth century and reviews some of the most prominent architectural examples from various Arab countries.  The exhibition was created in cooperation with UNESCO World Heritage Centre, the National Council for Cultures, Arts and Letters in Kuwait, and the Arab Centre for Architecture in Lebanon, with the aim of raising awareness on the importance of modern heritage as a testament to the evolution of human thought as reflected in modern architecture.  

 Dr. Anas Soufan will discuss the transformations that have taken place on a local, regional and international level and how they have shaped the modern architectural fabric and urbanism similar in origin to other Arab cities. He will also identify the heritage of modernity in Arab cities and how to understand, develop and maintain it in line with the major challenges these cities face, as well as their future visions.
