H.E Shaikha Mai bint Mohammad Al Khalifa, President of Bahrain's Authority for Culture & Antiquities, participated  on 3 March 2019, the 21st  General Assembly and International Symposium “Heritage as a Builder of Peace” of the Romualdo Del Bianco Foundation and Symposium of the International Institute 'Life Beyond Tourism', held in Florence, Italy from 1-3 March 2019. Bahrain is the guest of honour of this  international Symposium, showcasing a cultural program exhibition titled  “Bahrain Meets The World in Florence”.

Mr. Paolo Del Bianco , President of Romualdo Del Bianco Foundation, which  is a non-profit Florentine institution endorsing an array of cultural events in order to encourage mutual exchanges of knowledge, and committed to a program of cultural initiatives at its safeguarding and appreciation, has honored H.E Shaikha Mai bint Mohammad Al Khalifa for her efforts in cultural heritage safeguard, her contributions to build bridges of dialogue and rapprochement between peoples and civilizations through culture.

Commenting on Bahrain participation in this international event, H.E Shaikha Mai bint Mohammad Al Khalifa said “ Our presence in this world important meeting reflects the high level and advanced position that culture has reached  in the Kingdom of Bahrain, confirming, here thus, the importance of our universal world heritage, a witness to our deeply-rooted history and civilization”. H.E added “ Bahrain’s historical assets are the best and most prominent  tools to promote the richness of this land and invite the whole the world to discover it”.

With regard to  the opening of exhibition “Bahrain Meets the World in Florence" on the occasion of the Twenty-first general assembly of experts from the Romualdo Del Bianco Foundation and Symposium of the International Institute 'Life Beyond Tourism' In Florence, Italy, H.E said “ We brought from Bahrain exceptional and unique stereotypes, arts and handicrafts models that reflect our genuine traditional heritage, such as Traditional Bahraini costumes for women, patterns & motifs, the Ancient Craft of Pottery, Textile & Weaving, Door making and Food,  Arts of Architecture in Historical Houses, Music and Arabic Calligraphy. The idea is show the world these cultural expressions and elements that have formed and made our world heritage, the preferred and ideal destination worth for  Bahrain to be known of”.

During this international cultural  event, H.E  Hala Bint Mohammed Alkhalifa, Director-General of Culture & Arts gave a Culture Talk, titled :  Cultural Expression of Places: Case study – Restore/Renovate/Repurpose,  in which H.E introduced “ Bahrain Meets the World” ‘s cultural program, including a comprehensive show of heritage local cultural elements, as well as introductory forums on Bahrain’s historical assets.  

Worth to mention that the 21st General Assembly of the Experts of the Fondazione Romualdo Del Bianco, titled “Heritage as a Builder of Peace”,  International Symposium  was attended by more than 200 prominent experts and specialists in culture and heritage from more than 47 countries in the world, gathering this year to get acquainted and discover the richness of the Bahrain’s world heritage.
