H.E Shaikha Mai: Hagia Sophia is a Special Unique Historical Heritage Site

H.E Shaikha Mai Bint Mohammed Al Khalifa, President of the Bahrain Authority for Culture & Antiquities and Chairperson of the Board of Directors of the Arab Regional Center for World Heritage, ARC-WH, stressed the importance of Hagia Sophia, considered as “an iconic and deeply treasured site of world heritage”. H.E asserted that “Its status merits being the subject of consensus of the scholars of the religions and culture in which it has played such a prominent role. It is regrettable to make it the subject of discord and division”, H.E added.

Worth to mention that  the Kingdom of Bahrain features currently among the 21 countries that are members of the World Heritage Committee, emanating from the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization "UNESCO". The World Heritage Committee’s main role is to safeguard, preserve and guarantee the good management of world heritage sites registered on World Heritage List.
