H.E Director General of Culture & Arts: “The culture and arts communities in the Kingdom of Bahrain and the Arabian Gulf have lost a prominent figure who truly enriched our cultural heritage.

 

On Wednesday the 15th of July, the Bahraini cultural scene lost one of its most prominent figures with the passing of the artist and playwright Rashid bin Abdullah Al-Maawda, a pioneer part the cultural and theatrical movements who had contributed to laying the foundations for theater arts in the Kingdom of Bahrain and the Arabian Gulf region since the early 1960s.

Paying her tribute to the Deceased artist, Her Excellency Shaikha Hala bint Mohammed Al Khalifa, Director General of Culture & Arts at the Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities, said, “The culture and arts communities in the Kingdom of Bahrain and the Arabian Gulf have lost a prominent figure who truly enriched our cultural heritage." H.E added saying: “We offer our prayers for the loss and we may find comfort and compassion in his legacy and heritage which will never be forgotten, whether playwrights and theatrical pieces written for Radio and TV. The deceased contributions will be anchored in our next generations’ memories, a source of inspiration to continue his journey of creative outputs in all forms of art”. 
 
Worth to mention that the Late Al-Muawadah started his artistic journey in the beginning of the 1960s when he began writing short stories for theater to be displayed on Al-Muharraq clubs’ stages. In 1960, he became a prominent playwright in local dialect theater plays, such as “Beit Tayyab Soma3a”, “ Malan wa Inkassar”, Saba3 Layali”, “ Toob Toob ya Bahar” and “ Amara No 20”, as well as weekly  playwrights for the Radio and TV serials. In addition, the deceased’s efforts contributed hugely to the safeguard of the oral popular artistic traditions and songs by recoding and documenting their performances broadcasted on Bahrain Radio and Television. His achievements and brilliant career also include his presidency of Bahrain Arts Society.
