H.E Shaikha Mai Inspection Visit to Bahrain’s Expo Dubai Pavilion, Final phase works’ development of the main structure of the pavillion inspected
Her Excellency Shaikha Mai bint Mohammed Al Khalifa, President of the Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities and Commissioner General of the Bahrain Pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai, visited the Kingdom of Bahrain National Pavilion at the Expo in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, on 3 February 2021. H.E viewed and was briefed on the latest the developments and achievements of the work in progress, and supervised the final phase of building the main structure for the wing, which will be completed in May 2021.
H.E Shaikha Mai said that with the close coming date of Dubai Expo 2020 inauguration, Bahrain Culture Authority is keen to complete the national pavilion on schedule in order to achieve the objectives of Bahrain’s participation in the global event hosted by the region for the first time. H.E also asserted that Bahrain’s pavillion will be an outstanding attractive platform that reflects the urban density of Bahrain, an ideal stand to promote the Kingdom of Bahrain’s deeply-rooted history and an open window to the whole world and civilizations. In addition, the Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities seeks to spotlight Bahrain’s World Heritage List sites, mainly Pearling Path, scheduled to be completed this year. Support and promotion of Bahraini and creative industries handicrafts related to textiles and weaving at the Kingdom of Bahrain Pavilion, and through live performances, interactive workshops, and exhibitions, will also be on the program, attracting millions of the Expo’s visitors coming from all around the world.
Bahrain’s Dubai Expo 2020 pavillion is the 2,000-square-meter Bahrain Pavilion utilizes ‘density’ as a variable to track how it helped shaped the distinctive features of Bahrain’s natural and urban composition and economic and cultural aspects over the millennia, from the ancient Dilmun Civilization to modern day. The semi-cubic shaped pavilion features 126 columns and 169 plate façades made of steel. The design of the pavilion, which takes the form of a cube, supported by 126 columns and 169 panel façades made of steel. Implementation teams developed a special engineering system for installing columns and facades, which was used for the first time in building the wing. The Bahrain National Pavilion at Expo 2021 Dubai was designed by the renowned Swiss engineer Christian Kerees, who is considered an important name in the world of architecture and research related to construction and installation. The Renowned famous Swiss engineer Christian Kerres was commissioned to design the pavilion as a pathway to explore the inter-relationships between creativity, density, opportunity, sustainability and mobility under the thematic umbrella of ‘Connecting Minds, Creating the Future.’
Expo 2020 Dubai is an ideal opportunity to highlight the successes and developments in the Arab world, with Bahrain playing an important role towards these achievements. The overarching theme of Expo 2020 Dubai is “Connecting Minds, Creating the Future”, which will be explored through three sub-themes of Opportunity, Mobility and Sustainability; and the Kingdom of Bahrain Pavilion will explore these aforementioned sub-themes through the lens of density.
