The Annual Bahrain Heritage Festival 4th Day, Lecture on Arabian Horses

The 27th  edition of the Annual Bahrain Heritage Festival continues to present its daily events and activities for the 4th day ( 27 April 2019), offering an array of rich program of different events, workshops, folk arts and literary meetings.

The festival, held near Shaikh Salman bin Ahmed Al Fatih Fort in Riffa,  will run until 3 May and visitors can enjoy the event on a daily basis from 5:00 pm-9:00 pm.

The fourth day of the festival presented a lecture on “ Arabian Horses” by Shaikh Ahmad Bin Saq Al-Khalifa and  Dr. Nabeeh Mohammad Atta, with Mr. Hassan Kamel, conducting the panel discussions. The lecture shed lights on genuine  Arabian horses,  this oldest and cleanest breed in the world are considered the most beautiful in the world, as well as discussing the themes of the book by Shaikh Ahmad Bin Saq Al-Khalifa  ( Al –Qawl fi Al-Kheel wa Samr el leel “ A Say in Horses and Nightingale Romance Night Chat ”.

 Mr. Hassan Kamel welcomed the audience, stressing the importance of Arabian horses as essential element of the Bahrain and Arab heritage, saying “ I would like to welcome you all and address  something to my country Bahrain, the home of seagulls, beaches and palm trees, land of never sleeping sun and its sunset magic, beautiful noble breed horses neighing to one another, my beautiful country”.
  
Dr. Nabeeh Mohammad Atta also spoke about the Arabian genuine horses, explaining the beauty aspects of their elegance and honorability, arguing that they are a living example of the deeply-rooted Arab heritage. Dr. Atta added that there are two essentials elements that characterize the Arabian horses: strength and beauty .

Dr. Nabeeh Mohammad Atta said that the purebred Arabian horse is striking; an Arabian's most identifiable characteristics are its finely chiseled head, dished face, long arching neck and high tail carriage. Its entire appearance exudes energy, intelligence, courage and nobility. Every time an Arabian moves in its famous "floating trot," he announces to the world his proud, graceful nature. He went to add that In general, Arabians have a short, straight back (usually one less vertebra than is common with other breeds), perfect balance and symmetry, a deep chest, well-sprung ribs, strong legs of thick density and a more horizontal pelvic bone position. The average speed is estimated at 70 km/h and as a result, Arabian horses  developed a close affinity to man and a high intelligence, a hearing and visual powers beyond human capacities, Dr Atta concluded.

H.E Shaikh Ahmad Bin Saq Al-Khalifa also shed lights on his book, arguing that it documents the most important concepts and vocabulary items related to horses, their description and their characteristics.

In addition to this lecture, this year’s edition of the heritage festival presented two folk art shows performed by Al-Dar Al Sagheera Music Band, enjoying the public with many ancestors’ tales and social customs and different cultural practices. 

Worth to mention that the annual Heritage Festival also features exhibitions that highlight the originality of Arabian horses in Bahrain, such as the "Horse and Rider" exhibition that includes a variety of equipment related to horses and riders, as well as photography exhibition, shedding lights on “Royal Horses”. The festival also features a collection of horse paintings and manuscripts from the Bahrain National Museum. The plastic art will be present at the  festival through “ Heritage Inspiration” exhibition.

 On the sidelines of the heritage festival, a popular traditional market is  organized offering an array of products,  like local frankincense, clothing, coffee, and may laqqah. Visitors are certainly be pleased by a traditional food-tasting experience inside the festival venue courtyard cafés, offering folk and traditional foods and drinks, dishes that are  lively and freshly  made.  The festival, keen to enhance the awareness about the composing elements of the Bahraini heritage with regard to genuine authentic Arabian horses legacy, also presents a series of workshops for all ages.

Worth to mention that the 27th  edition of the Annual Bahrain Heritage Festival is sponsored by Ammar Basheir “Studio for Art , the Creative Design Company” and Al Baddad International company. Many government ministries have contributed to the organization and success of this festival, such as Ministry of Works, Ministry of Interior, Ministry of Justice, Islamic Affairs and Awqaf, Ministry of Health, Southern Governorate,   as well as Alia Flowers and  AA Car Rental.
