Adel Al-Abbasi, a Bahrain born artist, is a self-taught artist who does not believe in any specific art style or movement; he just wants to be himself, with a free spirit, in order to convey a genuine message via his art works. His artworks range from the Dilmun civilization to Sufi culture. He is a painter as well as a sculptor.
Educated in the USA, where he obtained his Bachelor degree and MBA, Adel was influenced by popular imagery and new technology. At a certain point in his life, he spent six months in Japan where he was introduced to calligraphy and Ikebana floral philosophy. Adel gained most of his techniques and manual craftsmanship experience, like welding and casting, from his high school where he studied mechanical engineering. In addition, he has taken art classes in New York and Los Angeles. All of this varied and multi-cultural life experience has impacted and is reflected in his art and the different styles he has embraced.
Adel has won many prizes, most notably the first award, Al Daneh, in the Bahrain Annual Fine Arts Exhibition in 2011.
