The Internationally renowned architect, the late Zaha Hadid, created preliminary designs for the museum which protrudes from a narrow alleyway in Muharraq and gently curves in an overhang above the water in the direction of Manama. The attractive design of the art galleries opens up gradually towards the main entrance to form a shaded open sloping
public space. The details of the inner units are reflected in the folds and outcrops of the building’s wavy exterior.
The building contains a series of consecutive architectural spaces to accommodate the museum requirements, notably providing spaces for standalone and diverse galleries for
visitors and artists to enjoy. The preliminary designs were supported by Arcapita Bank.
