Boat Making Workshop

Details of the Workshop:

Al Jasra Crafts Centre organizes a Boat Making Workshop. This craft is one of the traditional industries that the people of the Kingdom of Bahrain have been famous for since ancient times, and which have been associated with them as a nation that lives on the sea and its sailors go to different ports of the world. They are the ships that excelled in in their manufacture, so their names and uses have varied, including Al-Banoush, Al-Shuai, owls, mule and other species that are used in fishing, pearl diving, and transporting passengers and goods. Residents of the Al-Naeem and Ras Al-Rumman areas in Manama have always been pioneers in this profession of making wooden ships. The residents of the city of Muharraq also excelled in practicing this profession, especially in the coastal area of ​​the city. The person who makes wooden ships is called “Al-Qallaf.”

Workshop details:

  • Identifying the types of wood used for manufacturing the ship model.
  • Learning how to chop wood to create the ship model.
  • Learning how to draw and carve pieces of wood and sanding.
  • Learn how to configure ship attachments.
