A photo walk that explores the architectural heritage that defines Manama's rich history and culture. As you traverse the bustling streets and narrow alleyways, you will encounter a tapestry of old and new, tradition and modernity, woven together in the unique urban landscape of Manama.
The photo walk will start with a brief introduction to the history of the city and elements from the photographer’s images, followed by a walk through the city of Manama. The participants will learn from each other and share their Vision of Manama by selecting the best three images to be posted on an Instagram account for the photo walk.
Hesham Al Ammal Bio
Hesham Al Ammal is a fine art and documentary photographer whose art revolves around social, environmental, and cultural elements. Mostly focusing on documenting life in Bahrain, his photography covers vernacular images from the rich history and culture of the islands. Working throughout the analog and alternative processes, to explore the interpretations of modernity on local societies.
His photography was exhibited in various galleries around the Gulf region; including Al Riwaq Art Space, Shaikh Ebrahim bin Mohammed Al Khalifa Center for Culture and Research, Bin Matar House in Bahrain, the American University in Sharjah; as well as several versions of Bahrain’s Annual Fine Arts Exhibition. He participated in several workshops organized by Goethe Institute, Shaikh Ebrahim Center, Leica Akademie, among others; and is active in presenting lectures and workshops on various aspects of the analog and alternative photography medium.
He graduated with a PhD from the University of Warwick and currently teaches at the University of Bahrain.
