The Young Artisan - Make Your Heya Beya Workshop

Details of the Workshop:

Al Jasra Crafts Centre is organising a special workshop for children titled "Make Your Heya Beya.” Heya Beya is a traditional custom passed down through generations in the Arabian Gulf region. Children gather materials needed to grow the Heya Beya, such as small wicker baskets or empty food tins, to plant seeds in them. The children then compete in taking care of the small plant until the time comes to cast it into the sea. On that day, families enjoy a day at the seashore while the children chant the Heya Beya song.

Objectives of the workshop:

  • Enhancing the importance of traditional heritage and folklore.
  • Developing cognitive behavior towards the environment.
  • Teaching the child organic farming skills.
  • Anchoring communication and participation skills among children.

 Workshop Topics Include:

  • “Heya Beya” popular heritage storytelling to safeguard the legacy.
  • Identify the environmentally friendly forms “Heya Beya” plants.
  • Each child will try to practice “Heya Beya” planting in real circumstances.
  • Learn about basket weaving craft in a tour of the centre in an atmosphere of fun and performance of traditional songs.
