The Young Artisan - Carpentry Basics (Traditional Chests) Workshop

Details of the Workshop:

As part of the "Young Artisan" initiative, Al Jasra Crafts Centre is hosting the workshop “Carpentry Basics: Traditional Chests.” During this workshop, participants will learn the fundamentals of carpentry, including the safe use of tools, and will engage in a practical activity to create a "Sundooq Mubayat." The chest is one of the traditional features of weddings in Bahrain and the Arabian Gulf region. It contained the groom's gifts for the bride and was placed in the marital home the night before the wedding. It was then presented to the bride on the wedding night. It is named "Mubayat" because it stays overnight in the house.

Workshop topics include:

  • Learning about carpentry tools and their usage.
  • Understanding safe practices and precautions in a carpentry workshop.
  • Applying knowledge by building a traditional chest based on the learned skills.

Workshop Outcomes:
