The "Basics of Translation" workshop aims to introduce participants to the basic concepts of translation, to provide them with the skill to search for specialized terms in the field, and to guide them to approved sources, types of texts and methods of translation.

Fluency in Arabic and English.
About the Presenter
Dr. Dheya Aljalahma is an Assistant Professor of Translation Studies. She has a PhD in Translation Studies from Salford University, UK. She is currently the Head of the Department of English Language and Literature. She sees translation as a vitally important activity in today’s world as well as a complex process of negotiation between languages and cultures. She has accumulated significant levels of translation expertise, comparative analysis, text analysis, Arabization of terms and specialized translation (legal, scientific, media, diplomatic and literary translation). Her research interests include intercultural studies, examining and evaluating cultural problems in translation and translating cultural and religious sensitive texts, particularly those on women’s issues that she has addressed in translation conferences. Dr. Aljalahma has a number of published papers on Literary Translation and the translation of Orientalists.
