Al-Naqda (Al Farkh Stitch)

Al Jasra Handicrafts Center is holding a creative interactive workshop on “Al-Naqda” and techniques.  Al Naqda art is part of old Bahraini traditional heritage, when in those  days women’s attire were hand embroidered with real silver thread utilizing a special needle known as “Al naqda”. In our days, women use this technique on modern products, such as accessories, tissue boxes, handkerchief, gift bags, etc. Frequently, using this type of embroidery in clothes, scarves and ‘bukhnaqs’, whereby, Khoos, which are thin strands of metal that come in either gold or silver, require a special needle to be pulled through cloth. Preferring tulle, wale cotton, and silk chiffons, the craftswomen thread the strands through cloth to create geometrical shapes, crescents, stars, and flowery motifs.
