Details of Workshop:
The workshop presents practical models of translation from Arabic to English and vice versa. These models require specific translation procedures to convey the accurate meaning and accomplish their aim. Dr Aljalahma will introduce the main features of a successful translation and explore different translation websites alongside practical training on translating different text types.
Main objective of the workshop:
The 4-hour workshop focuses on translation techniques with practical training sessions. It aims at giving those interested in translation an introduction to the topic in terms of types of texts, different cultural contexts and appropriate use of language.
Workshop aims:
Familiarize participants with the basic concepts of translation and research skills of specialized terminology through the use of online resources in addition to methods of translation for different text types.
Workshop entry requirements:
Fluency in Arabic and English.

About the Presenter
Dr. Dheya Aljalahma is an Assistant Professor of Translation Studies at the University of Bahrain. She has a PhD in Translation Studies from Salford University, UK. She is currently the President’s Advisor for Academic Affairs. She sees translation as a vitally important activity in today’s world as well as a complex process of negotiation between languages and cultures. She has accumulated significant levels of translation expertise, comparative analysis, text analysis, Arabization of terms and specialized translation (legal, scientific, media, diplomatic and literary translation). Her research interests include intercultural studies, examining and evaluating cultural problems in translation and translating cultural and religious sensitive texts, particularly those on women’s issues that she has addressed in translation conferences. Dr. Aljalahma has several published papers on Literary Translation and the translation of Orientalists.
