Threads of Heritage: Weaving Philippine Arts and Crafts Workshop (For Weavers)

Details of the Workshop:

Al Jasra Handicrafts Center is organising a workshop titled Threads of Heritage: Weaving Philippine Arts and Crafts.  The Tagolwanen Women Weavers Association, Inc. (TWWA) is dedicated to reviving the fading weaving tradition of the Tagolwanen tribe in Bukidnon, Philippines, and ensuring that the mat-making craft is passed down to future generations. The association envisions promoting indigenous arts to help the Tagolwanen women weavers achieve economic independence.

The workshop conducted by the Tagolwanen women weavers will introduce the traditional weaving practice of the Tagolwanen tribe, including their intricate designs and traditional methods of preparing the materials used and the weaving process.

Workshop Goals:

  • Cultural Exchange: Promote exchange of knowledge and best practices between Filipino and Bahraini artisans towards preservation of traditional weaving and indigenous crafts.
  • Skill Development: Provide hands-on training in traditional weaving techniques, enabling participants to experience the craft.
  • Economic Empowerment: Highlight the importance of supporting indigenous artisans in their pursuit of economic independence.
  • Awareness Raising: Educate participants about the significance of preserving indigenous arts for future generations and the role of cultural heritage in identity and community development.
