Arket Wood Workshop

Workshop Overview:

Al Jasra Handicrafts Centre is organising a workshop on Arket Wood.  Arket is the ancient handmade art of cutting, carving and hollowing out wood to make beautiful hollow shapes, using a coping saw or scroll saw, with proper training and practice in implementing some Arabic calligraphy will enable the trainee to make and cut any ornaments patterns, no matter how difficult it is, such as Arabic calligraphy, botanical motifs or geometric motifs. As well as training on how to do painting and finishing the work, and the arrangement of calligraphy pieces in size and colours suitable for the final artwork.

Workshop Topics:

• Identify the different types of wood and the characteristics of each type
• View samples and photos of previously executed Arket work
• Learn the different methods of wood cutting
• Learn the materials, tools and machines used in cutting and decorating wood
• Practical application of the skills of cutting wood using a manual coping saw and electrical scroll saw
• Present finishing and painting methods for wood
• Produce a complete product using the materials, tools and machines available for the calligraphy artwork
• Painting and finishing the product
• Add calligraphy artwork
• Present the products created during the training course

Workshop Outcomes:

• Enable the trainee to distinguish between different types of wood and the characteristics of each type
• Identify the different methods of cutting and decorating wood and mastering the use of manual coping saw and electrical scroll saw
• Produce a complete product that gives the trainee all the required experiences in cutting wood using a manual coping saw and electrical scroll saw
