Weaving Workshop

Workshop Overview:

Al Jasra Handicrafts Center is organising a Weaving Workshop, which is one of the ancient traditional crafts with deep roots in the history of the Kingdom of Bahrain. It has managed to meet most of the population’s needs of clothes and other requirements where fabric threads are used.

The textile industry was widespread in certain villages, such as Abu Saiba, Dar Kulaib and Maqabah. Thereafter, the industry was restricted to Bani Jamra village, which in the past hosted close to a hundred factories that employed almost all residents of the village.

These factories were nothing but modest huts of palm fronds where the weaver and his family members would seek refuge from the heat of the sun. Their village was a bustling market, in which people frequented to buy their requirements, and their fabrics were exported to the various Gulf regions.

   Workshop Details:

  • Learn about the types of threads used for weaving textiles.
  • Learning how to use a weaving textile machine.

 Workshop Outcomes:

Making a model piece of fabric cloth.
