Paper Felting - Designing a model of the Al Khamis Mosque Minaret

Workshop Overview:

In this workshop, participants will learn how to design and build a three-dimensional model of the Minaret of the historic Al Khamis Mosque using paper mache. Through deliberate steps, participants will learn about the mosque's architectural features and then artistically recreate them in a fun and educational way.

Workshop Topics:

Introduction to the Al Khamis Mosque and its history.

Review the shape and details of the mosque.

Explain the work tools and suitable paper materials.

Work on the design of the Minaret.

Colouring and finishing.

Workshop Outcomes:

Produce a miniature model of the Al Khamis Mosque Minaret that reflects its true form.

Tide Workshop - Designing a Nautical Clock

Pulse of the Sea

Workshop Overview:

In this workshop, participants will create a clock inspired by Bahrain’s sea, with its soothing colours. Participants will learn the steps of forming and pouring plaster into innovative moulds, then decorating the work with colours and motifs inspired by Bahrain’s coastline.

Workshop Topics:

Learn the tools and materials (gypsum, moulds, colours, clock hands).

Prepare gypsum and pour it into the marine mould.

Explain the techniques of forming marine motifs (such as waves).

Methods of colouring the work using the gradations of the sea (blue, white, sand).

Install the clock machine.

Tips for caring for the plaster work and fixing it on the wall.

Workshop Outcomes:

Produce a nautical clock made by the participant.

Promote awareness of the natural aesthetics of Bahrain's coasts.

Designing Wooden Houses

“Bab Dari”

Workshop Overview:

In this workshop, participants make miniature houses out of wood using simple materials such as wooden sticks, cardboard, and then decorate their work with colours. The workshop combines manual creativity and architectural knowledge in a fun and educational way and is a great experience for arts and crafts lovers.

Workshop Topics:

Learn the tools.

Choose the design of the house and determine its miniature dimensions.

Design and install windows and doors.

Decorate the house with colours.

Add artistic touches such as miniature trees.

Workshop Outcomes:

Produce a wooden house model made by the participants.

Developing craft skills and design thinking

Palm and Copper Workshop - Shaping a Palm Tree with Copper

Workshop Overview:

In this workshop, participants will create a palm tree using copper and nails, in a style that combines modernity and craftsmanship. The workshop focuses on the art of metal forming through simple and safe methods and highlights the symbol of the palm tree as an element of Bahraini identity, with its connotations of generosity, roots, and stability.

Workshop Topics:

Introduction to the symbolism of the palm tree in Gulf and Bahraini culture.

Identify the workshop materials (copper wire, nails, moulding tools, and fasteners).

Recognise safe ways to bend copper and install nails.

Shape the trunk and fronds with visual and aesthetic balance.

Install the model on a wooden base.

Workshop Outcomes:

Create a piece of art representing a handmade Bahraini palm tree made of copper.

Develop the artistic sense with elements of balance and form.

Colours by Threads Texture and Colours

Workshop Overview:

In this workshop, participants will embark on a freehand painting experience, using yarn and coloured wool instead of traditional colours. Layers of wool will be layered and hand-distributed on canvases to form landscapes, folk symbols, or vibrant abstract patterns.

Workshop Topics:

Learn the materials used (types of wool, canvas, stabilisers).

Demonstrate examples of artworks with coloured wool.

Choose an idea and plan the final look.

Wool distribution techniques (wrapping, spreading, taping).

Combine colours and layers to show shadows and texture.

Finish and frame the work as a displayable piece of art.

Workshop Outcomes:

A participant-designed painting using coloured wool.

Develop the artistic sense with elements of colour gradation and visual composition.

Nails and Threads

Workshop Overview:

In this workshop, threads and nails are used instead of pen and paper. Nails are fixed to a piece of wood, and then the threads are intertwined with the nails to produce the desired painting.

Workshop Topics:

Learn how to place nails.

Identify the appropriate nail length.

Identify types of thread.

Learn how to arrange threads.

Workshop Outcomes:

Make an artwork from threads and nails.

Puppet Making

Workshop Overview:

Puppets made by the elders reflect the distinct Bahraini folk heritage with its fabric and method of weaving.

Workshop Topics:

Stitching and stuffing dolls.

Make the correct clothes.

Add the finishing touches to dolls.

Workshop Outcomes:

Making puppets.

Design Your Own Bag

Workshop Overview: 

Experience the joy of embroidering on bags with our little artisans in this special workshop. Children will learn the art of decorative sewing, adding colour and richness to their imaginative creations. Join us for a delightful journey into the world of embroidery! 

Workshop Topics: 

Train children to embroider on bags. 

Learn about embroidery tools. 

Workshop Outcomes: 

Produce an embroidered bag for each participant. 

Carpentry Basics

Workshop Overview:

During this workshop, participants will learn the fundamentals of carpentry, including the safe use of tools, and will engage in a practical activity to create a wooden model.

Workshop Topics:

Learn about carpentry tools and their usage.

Understand safe practices and precautions in a carpentry workshop.

Apply knowledge by building a wooden model based on the learned skills.

Workshop Outcomes:

Make a wooden model.

Scented Candle

Workshop Overview:

The workshop focuses on teaching children how to make the most natural candles, using a variety of scents and fragrance oils.

Workshop Topics:

Prepare the candle wax.

Colour the candle wax.

Add fragrance oil to the wax.

Handle the wick.

Workshop Outcomes:

Make a scented candle.

Held in July 2025 for 3 weeks, every Monday and Wednesday, at a rate of 3 hours per day (14-16-21-23-28-30 July 2025), 9 AM – 12 PM.
