The Young Artisan - "Shells" Designing a Seashell Brooch Workshop

Workshop Overview:

As part of the “The Young Artisan” Program, Al Jasra Handicrafts Centre is organising the workshop “Shells”. In this workshop, participants will design an artistic brooch in the shape of a seashell, inspired by Bahrain's rich heritage as a land of diving and pearls. Participants will learn how to shape the small mould, then decorate the brooch with beads and accessories.

 Workshop Topics:

•  An overview of Bahrain's connection to shells and pearls as part of its maritime history and heritage.
• Introduction to the tools and materials used (small moulds, light metals, accessory fasteners).
• How to shape the mould inspired by the shape of a shell.
• Decoration techniques using artificial pearls or small shiny stones.
• Attaching the brooch pin in a practical and elegant way.

 Workshop Outcomes:

•  A handmade seashell brooch.
• Reviving memories of diving and pearls in a small piece of art that adorns clothing.
• Promoting pride in Bahrain's maritime identity through artistic creativity.
