Arket Woodcarving Workshop with Trainer Khamis Abdullah 

Workshop Overview:

This workshop offers a hands-on experience in the art of wood engraving using coping saw or scroll saw. Participants will shape letters and patterns, explore colouring and finishing techniques, and transform wood into refined artworks — celebrating the beauty of traditional craftsmanship.

Workshop Topics:

• Identify the different types of wood and the characteristics of each type
• View samples and photos of previously executed Arket work
• Learn the different methods of wood cutting
• Learn the materials, tools and machines used in cutting and decorating wood
• Practical application of the skills of cutting wood using a manual coping saw and electrical scroll saw
• Present finishing and painting methods for wood
• Produce a complete product using the materials, tools and machines available for the calligraphy artwork
• Painting and finishing the product
• Add calligraphy artwork
• Present the products created during the training course

Workshop Outcomes:

• Enable the trainee to distinguish between different types of wood and the characteristics of each type
• Apply different methods of cutting and decorating wood and mastering the use of manual coping saw and electrical scroll saw
• Produce a complete product that gives the trainee all the required experiences in cutting wood using a manual coping saw and electrical scroll saw.
