The Bahrain National Museum will be hosting a solo exhibition for Moroccan artist Lalla Essaydi. The photography exhibition titled “Writing the Self, Writing Others” traces and maps a history often coded in misunderstanding by re-visiting and re-interrogating the complexity of the Arab female identity.
“I do not intend my work to be simply a mere critique of either Arab or Western culture. I am going beyond simple critique to a more active, even subversive, engagement with cultural patterns to convey my own experience as an Arab woman.”
A talk by artist Lalla Essaydi will be held on Wednesday 12 November 2014, at 6:00 pm
