Join us for the Indonesian Film Festival from 8 to 11 June. The Indonesian Film Festival is aimed at promoting Indonesia, its people, nature and social life through movies. It is the aim of the Embassy that after watching these movies, the audiences will have a better understanding of Indonesia, its people and its potential.
Movies:
1. Soekarno
Soekarno is best remembered as Indonesia’s first president. The man whose immortal words declared Indonesia as a new, free nation emerging from the destruction and chaos of World War II. But to many Indonesians, he is also remembered as a man of action who disliked being dependent on any party. One of his most famous sayings was “ Jas Merah ,” short for “ Jangan Sekali-kali Meninggalkan Sejarah ” or “do not ever forget the history.” It is a strong statement and often quoted in many texts. Through their dialogues, members of the audience see the fate of [the Indonesian] nation state as discussed decades ago.
2. OMAR’S 28 DAYS IN INDONESIA
The film is about Omar Farooq, who’s joining Learning, Enrichment and Acceleration Program (LEAP) program from Association internationale des étudiants en sciences économiques et commerciales (AIESEC) to visit Indonesia for 28 days.
In his film, Omar recounts his valuable experiences on his visit to Indonesia.
Omar Farooq, born in 1994, is an instagram social media activist who is widely known in Bahrain. A student at the University of Bahrain (UOB), Omar Farooq, has an undying will to create awareness. Having recently won the Nasser bin Hamad Youth Creativity Award in photography and film making, Omar hopes to use social media to create an impact on society.
Omar is going to attend the film screening and give presentation after the film.
3. ERAU KOTA RAJA
Kirana is a journalist assigned to cover the Traditional Erau Festival in Tenggarong. When reporting, Kirana meets a local guy named Reza and she begins to fall for him. However, their love is rejected by Reza’s mother, who does everything possible to expel Kirana from the village and keep the two apart.
