Artist Shona Illingworth and Shaikh Khalifa bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, President of the Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities, will discuss the process of making of Topologies of Air, an immersive three-screen and surround sound installation, opening at the Bahrain National Museum on Tuesday 27 September.
In March 2019, Shona spent two weeks on a production residency hosted by Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities, collecting materials towards Topologies of Air. During her time in Bahrain, Shona filmed in Bahraini landscapes, spoke with experts working in civil aviation, meteorology, urbanism, architecture, geology and archaeology, as part of the Sky Forum Bahrain, and run workshops for children, exploring their relationship to the sky.
Topologies of Air traverse the cultural, geopolitical, environmental, technological and psychological layers of the sky, building an image of a complex and contested space, both shared and personal, and with a long history and rapidly changing future.

The event is presented by The Wapping Project, London, in partnership with Bahrain National Museum, and it is generously supported by the British Council, DCMS and GREAT through the UK-Gulf exhibition program.
