Ahmed Anan is a Bahraini visual artist, born in Manama in 1968. He developed his fine arts experience through seeking knowledge and continuous research in artistic contexts in its various forms through his close encounters with a number of leading international artists and their skillful work in painting, photography, sculpture, graphic printing and collage arts. Anan has exhibited his artwork in numerous exhibitions both in Bahrain and abroad.
Ahmed Anan's works are known for the bright colors and drawings that are characterized by a bold expressionist style. The content explores feelings, social and cultural ideas that internalize the highly regarded value of humanity beyond parameters. This intentionally charged work full of a myriad of meanings in visual vocabulary demonstrates the infinite meaning of joy as it is confronted with the open meaning of a word such as sadness. Living life on the frontier to go through consequences that know only open endings.
In the same context, and through this exhibition "The Shirt of Absence" based on a collection of paintings on canvas, paper and mixed media, and a number of other sculptural works created with bronze, the artist Ahmed Anan translates that particular circumstance that he lived through, in a symbolic narrative away from direct disclosure. A resulting visual aesthetic value is seen, behind which hides an empty and bursting unspoken sentence at the same time on suffering and loss.
