As part of its strenuous efforts and extensive preparations to carry out the events in celebration of Manama as the Capital of Arab Culture, H.E Shaikha Mai bint Mohammed Al Khalifa, Minister of Culture received world heritage expert, ex-director of ICCROM Organization for Natural and Environment Heritage, Dr. Mounir Bouchenaki to discuss and review the scientific program of the International Conference on Prehistoric Times and Ancient Civilizations. The conference will be held in next April, a month dedicated to the" Heritage" theme as part of the events celebrating Manama as the capital of Arab Culture from April,28th -2nd May 2012, with the participation of more than 300 directors and archaeology experts from Arab countries and international colleagues.
The program will include a view on the prehistoric and ancient times, and the experiences of other countries in preserving it. The program also features a plan encouraging Arab countries to enlist these sites on the preliminary list for international heritage. The minister stressed, during the meeting, on the scientific committee to set strategic plans for the program, and involve all Arab countries in the convention.
She stressed as well on giving special attention to sites in Palestine. The Ministry of Culture organized in 2009 an international meeting in which all prehistoric era experts participated.
This convention confirms the role of this era and what it represents internationally.
The meeting was attended also by Dr, Saeed Al-Khuzai, director of the Arab Regional Centre for World Heritage in Bahrain and the conference's Scientific Committee Coordinator.
