H.E Shaikha Mai bint Mohammed Al-Khalifa, Minister of Culture, extended thanks to Al-Zayani Family who donated BD80,000 to revamp Mehzaa Mosque in Manama. The Al-Zayani Mabarra Charity Foundation announced the move as part of the invest-in- culture project and the drive of the private sector to promote internal tourism and conserve heritage.
The iconic mosque, which covers 2670 square metres, was constructed in the era of late Bahrain Ruler Shaikh Ali bin Khalifa Al-Khalifa, who appointed Chief Judge Qassim Al-Mehzaa as its imam, hence its famed name. The iconic moment was known as the Grand Mosque, being the biggest at that time in Bahrain with its 40-metre tall minaret.
