Bahrain Cinema Days presented its last lecture on “The Relationship Between Film and Television; Rivalry or Complementarity” at Bahrain Lecture Hall, Qala’at al Bahrain Site Museum on November 29th. Bahrain Cinema Days will come to end on 30th November 2014 at Hall 12, Bahrain City Center at 6:30 pm.
The lecture, which was presented by Mr. Khalil Al-Damoun (Morocco), Mr. Ma’amoun Al-Bana (France) and Mr. Adnan Madanat (Jordan), discussed the relationship between television and film production companies. Mr. Madanat argued that the television plays a key role in cinema production in Western world, whereas it is still confined to its traditional classic role in the Arab world. At a time cinema production is peaking elsewhere, television production in the Arab world is not helping to enhance and promote technical and artistic production, he said.
Mr. Khalil Al-Damoun pointed out that we need to consider the status of cinema and television in the Arab world and classify it as part of the international audiovisual framework, asserting that both sectors should work harmoniously given the latest cutting-edge technical means of communication. Mr. Ma’amoun Al-Bana shared the same opinion with him arguing that differences between film and television production are falling because of the technological advancement and that many of movie producers started their career in television.
At the last day, the Jury Committee, which is presided by Mr. Ali Abu Shadi (Egypt), Lina Haweyan Al-Hassan (Syria) as member and Mohammad Hassan Ahmad (UAE) as a member, will announce winners of Bahrain Cinema Days Contest.
The Ministry of Culture has announced its decision to sponsor and support cinema short films producers in Bahrain, whereby the Ministry has effectively sponsored 13 short narrative movies dealing with the sea as a theme and symbol.
Among the Arab films that were screened during Bahrain Cinema Days are Egyptian movie Messages From the Sea (Rasa’il Min Il Bahar), Tunisian movie The Season of Men (Mawsim IlRijal), Palestinian film My Love Will Wait For Me By The Sea (Habibi Biyistanani Enid Il Bahar), Emirati film The Sea’s Voice (Sawat Al Bahar) and Algerian movie Warship (Haraka).International films to be screened at the festival include features from the US, Mexico and Denmark, alongside Asian films from several countries, including the Philippines, China, Iran, Turkey and Cambodia.
