H.E Shaikha Mai receives British Council Director to discuss Cooperation between both countries

H.E Shaikha Mai bint Mohammad Al Khalifa, president of Bahrain Authority for Culture & Antiquities (BACA), received on 18 March 2015, British Council Director-General Tony Calderbank, and researcher Louis Frederick of the British Library, and discussed ways to promote cultural cooperation between the two countries, exploring ways and means of creating new vistas of civilizational interaction between the two friendly nations.

BACA president praised the historical and cultural relations between Britain and Bahrain and stressed the importance of the British role played in enriching Bahraini culture. H.E welcomed all manner of cultural cooperation advocated by Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities with British counterparts.


The meeting discussed the possibility of organizing an exhibition to accentuate the 200-year relation between the two countries, and Britain's positive role in bringing social, economic and administrative achievements during the tenure of Bahrain's government's advisor Charles Belgrave from 1929-1959. The two sides reviewed ways and means of exploring and implementing the scientific research conducted by Mr. Louis Frederick on the significance of cultural communication achieved by British Cultural Council in the region since 1939, and its role in bridging the gap between people of the region and the United Kingdom.

British Council Director-General praised BACA’s strenuous efforts to boost cultural activities in the kingdom, and expressed his admiration for the remarkable attention and preservation of national heritage in Bahrain and expressed readiness to take part in events that assist in boosting cultural exchange between the two countries. The British Council director-general also focused on strengthening and expanding cultural ties between Bahrain and the UK through meetings, events, and future projects that will facilitate the expansion of bilateral cultural ties and cooperation opportunities.
