‘Sound & Light’ Project at Qala’at al-Bahrain Site

As part of its strategy to promote archaeological sites, H.E Shaikha Mai bint Mohammed Al Khalifa, president of the Bahrain Authority for Culture & Antiquities (BACA), received, on 16 March 2016 a delegation from the Spanish based company ACCIONA. The Spanish company is charged with the mission to prepare the ‘Sound & Light’ project at Qala’at al- Bahrain archaeological site this year.

H.E Shaikha Mai said, “This year we opted for ‘Bahrain Your Destination’ theme through which we shed light on our heritage and archaeologically and its part in the Kingdom of Bahrain’s culture.” H.E added that the ‘Sound & Light’ project is only the tip of the iceberg; other projects will be implemented in different locations in Bahrain. The aim of BACA is to enhance the cultural infrastructure in Bahrain for everyone.

The legendary ‘Sound and Light’ show will be presented at the site of Qala’at al-Bahrain. State-of-art technologies of lighting, laser shows and projection will be used to visualize and bring to life the mysteries of the unique Bahrain and GCC site and the successive civilizations starting with Dilmun until today.

The ACCIONA team gave a presentation during the meeting showing the latest development and work progress at the site with regard to the ‘Sound & Light’ project. The team also presented the historical content to be showcased, the project’s feasibility study and the locations to be covered by the project.

The Bahrain Authority for Culture & Antiquities is working hard towards ensuring Bahrain’s sites are more attractive to visitors through future events such as the ‘Sound & Light’ show.
