A day after the press conference series of events celebrating Muharraq, Capital of Islamic Culture 2018, by the Bahrain Authority for Culture & Antiquities (BACA), the 5th Joint coordination meeting was held, on 9 January 2018 at the Lecture Hall, to discuss the preparations to be made with regard to heritage sites’ rehabilitation, parking lots that will accommodate the huge number of cars during the festivities and events celebrating Muharraq as the Capital of Islamic Culture 2018. H.E Shaikha Hala Bint Mohammad Al-Khalifa, Director of Culture & Arts Directorate, welcomed the participants, representing government ministries, public sector and BACA’s staff. The meeting was attended by Captain Mohammad Al-Awadhi, Captain Khalifa Al-Majed from the Ministry of Interior, Mr Isa Al-Zayani and Mr Isa Al-Wazzan, Al-Seef shopping mall representatives. H.E Shaikha Hala stressed during her intervention, the importance of complete organizing procedures concerning events locations and venues, the accommodation of the streets and roads leading to the main stage festivities. H.E added that this should be done in coordination with all official entities and government’s institutions, given the near future official launch of Muharraq, Capital of Islamic Culture 2018 , scheduled on 28 January 2018, under the high patronage of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, May God Protect Him.
Mrs Huda Al-Alawi, Director of Public Relations & Media at BACA, for her part highlighted the importance of the actual measures, which have been taken already by the different governmental bodies in order to accomplish efficient and successful preparation measures for this important event. BACA’s engineer, Ahmad Imam, presented the detailed traffic organisation plan, showing entry and egress in to the site, and how All vehicles will enter and exit the site to guarantee a perfect fluidity. The meeting also discussed the media and promotion plan for this major event, and the participants’ readiness to work in close coordination with BACA to achieve a bight successful celebrations for the launch of the city of Muharraq as the capital of Islamic culture for 2018. The aim is to show the whole world Bahrain's glorious urban architectural heritage, and the need for concerted efforts to promote the national identity through various projects in the historical city of Muharraq.
